Thank you for considering making a regular donation to Malvern St James. Regular giving allows us to plan for the future and provides a steady income stream.

You can either make a regular donation online or by downloading our Direct Debit Donation Form. The completed Direct Debit Donation Form must to returned in full to the following address (keep a copy of the Direct Debit Guarantee at the bottom of the form for your records):

Making a gift in your lifetime may not be possible, but leaving a legacy helps us plan for the future.

There are many different ways of making a legacy pledge.

You can amend your Will by completing a Codicil, a legal document that serves as a supplement to your Will. 

You can make a donation in honour, or in memory, of a school friend, teacher, Headmistress or Housemistress.

If you would like to do this as an individual, or as a year group/ House group etc, please contact the Development Office to discuss further.

If you would like to support the School by sponsoring an event, donating items or financial assistance, please contact the Development Office.

If you are a UK tax payer, you can make your donation go further if you gift-aid your donation, as well as claiming tax relief if you are a higher rate tax-payer.

By doing this, for every £100 you give, Malvern St James receives a further £25.

With gift aid, for every £100 gift, we will receive £125 and:

• if you are a 40% tax payer you will receive £25 rebate, meaning for £125 we receive, you have paid £75
• if you are a 45% tax payer you will receive a £31.25 rebate, meaning for £125 we receive, you have paid £68.75

Higher rate tax payers can claim tax relief on your self-assessment form by using HMRC form R40.

In order for your donation to be eligible for gift aid, you must confirm that you have paid or will pay an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax which is at least equal to the amount of that that all the charities you donate to will reclaim on your gifts in any one tax year (April 6 to April 5). Other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify.

We will hold your gift aid declaration on file, but please notify us if you wish to cancel it, change your name or home address, or no longer pay income tax and/or capital gains tax equal to the equivalent that Malvern St James will claim on future donations.

You are able to claim income tax relief on gifts to charity of most stocks and shares, whether you are resident or non-resident in the UK. This is in addition to the existing relief from Capital Gains Tax.

In order to calculate the amount of tax relief, you should deduct the value of your donation from your taxable income for the tax year in which the donation is made. The amount you can deduct is the market value of the shares on the day of the gift plus an incidental costs of disposing of the shares such as broker’s fees.

Donors can claim relief at their top rate of tax on their Self Assessment or Corporation Tax return.

For example:

A donor gives a gift of 2000 shares in a company, which he bought for £6,000 and now have a market value of £10,000. The broker’s fee, paid by the donor to arrange the transfer is £50. The tax deduction is calculated below:

Assuming the donor is paying income tax at the higher rate of 45%, their income tax bill will be reduced by (£10,050 x 45%) £4522. This effectively means that the donation of £10,000 will actually cost the donor just £5528 after tax relief (£10,050 - £4,522).

The donor will also save the Capital Gains Tax that should have been paid on the increase in the value of the shares (from £6,000-£10,000) which is £4,000. The current rate of Gapital Gains Tax for individuals who pay above the basic rate of tax is 28%. Therefore, in effect, the donation has only cost them £4,408 (£5528 after tax releief (£10,050 - £4522) which is less than half of the value of the gift.

If you are interested in making a gift of stocks or shares, we advise you to seek specific advice from your tax or financial adviser.

Over 350 companies in the UK run payroll giving schemes and over 250 of these match (or more) the donations their employees make to a charity. Through payroll giving your donation is deducted from your salary before tax. Each £1 you give may only costs you:

• 80p for basic tax payers
• 60p for 40% tax payers
• 55p for 45% tax payers

Your employer will process your donation, plus any additional employer giving, through their payroll Giving Agency. You do not need to report it on an HMRC Self-Assessment tax return.

Many companies in the UK help boost employee charitable donations through a matched grant scheme. So for every £1 you pay, your employer also pays £1 to your chosen charity.
