Support our bursary appeal and make an outstanding MSJ education more accessible for talented girls.
We all know and love Malvern St James for its ethos of grounded girls who will use the privilege of an outstanding education as a force for good in the world. As the Good Schools Guide says, we are “full of girls who will change the world”. Please help us reach out to bright, curious and ambitious girls who would benefit from an Malvern St James education but are held back by financial circumstances.
Developed in response to the mass consumerism of Black Friday, Giving Tuesday has been created as a day to give back and has since been adopted by schools, colleges, universities, and charities across the globe.
Malvern St James is taking part in the initiative for the first time and on Tuesday 1 December we are asking the Malvern St James Community to come together and get involved in raising funds for bursaries to ensure that we can support social mobility and a diverse and inclusive student body in our school.
We are asking you, our vibrant School community of parents, past parents, Old Girls, staff, Honorary Members and friends to help us if you are able. We appreciate that many of us will have felt the financial effects of the pandemic, and there are many charities which need our support. But if you believe in the power of education having a transformative effect, and you are in a position to give, please do consider giving to the Malvern St James Bursary Fund on Giving Day.
The girls in school will enjoy various activities on the day which they can support with a voluntary donation.
We are also looking for donors to support the appeal ahead of its launch to provide possible matched funding to help us to engage and mobilise our community to contribute and help to make a bigger impact on the day. For more information on how you can help, please email Fiona Meredith or call +44 (0) 1684 584613.
As ever, your support will make all the difference, and we know how lucky we are to have this amazing community around us.
To support our very first Giving Tuesday, Mr Simon Holden (Director of Operations) has very generously donated a week's holiday for four people in his lodge near Oban, Scotland. It is a fantastic base from which to explore the Highlands and islands, as well as enjoying stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Tickets cost just £10 and each ticket counts as a new entry to the draw. Anyone over 16 can enter and 100% of proceeds will go towards the MSJ Bursary Fund. Testimonial - Rosie Kefford (MGC Old Girl)
"Bursaries and scholarships are a long tradition at MGC and the other founding schools and they can make an enormous difference. Of course, a scholarship is a financial hand-up to families dedicated to education and aspiration but without abundant funds: a scholarship also can play an important role in boosting confidence of a bright but uncertain teenager: it can relieve the anxiety of a child worrying about whether their parents are struggling with fees and reduce the stress on a family as a whole. I was a beneficiary of a generous 6th Form exhibition in 1981, and it did all of the above for me and my family. I urge you to give a hand to another family and help more children benefit from one of the greatest privileges of all – an MSJ education."
