MSJ Giving Day - what's it all about?Tuesday 30 November is global Giving Day: a day when people everywhere come together to do something to support the causes and communities that mean so much to us all.
Join us for our MSJ Giving Day. Our aim is to raise money for the MSJ Bursary Fund:
- This assists almost 1 in 3 pupils at the School with fee remissions
- Our aim is to raise £2million through fundraising by 2025 to create 100% funded places for girls who could not join without full fee remission.
MSJ Giving Day is about coming together as a community, having fun, celebrating the School run-up to Christmas, as well as raising funds. Last year we raised almost £16,500: can we raise the bar for 2021?
We will also be hosting a Shwopping (think clothes shopping meets clothes swapping) event on the evening of Giving Day which will raise funds for West Mercia Women’s Aid – see more below.
Giving to education is like giving a gift for life. Every penny of the money raised from the baubles will go to the Bursary Fund, which will help us create an even more diverse and energetic community.
How you can get involved
You can support our Buy a Bursary Bauble Appeal by sponsoring a bauble with your name and a dedicated message which we’ll hang in York Hall. Baubles are available in different sizes for different donation levels: from £20 for a regular one to £500 for a giant glittering gold one.
Baubles are available to buy now. Just click on the button below to make your donation and we will email you to get your message for your bauble. We will then hang your bauble in York Hall and enter you into the raffle.
Win a UK luxury breakEach bauble you buy gives you entry into the raffle, with two luxury prizes donated: a perfect weekend in the Cotswolds at The Double Red Duke - described by Giles Coren as “full of elegant nooks and crannies … a dreamy world of rural eating and drinking … a class operation” - and a week in a beautiful Keswick holiday home in the heart of the Lake District. Tickets are £20 each. The bigger the bauble you buy, the more entries you receive.
£20 bauble – 1 entry
£100 bauble – 5 entries
£250 bauble – 12 entries
£500 bauble – 25 entries
You could win one night's dinner, bed and breakfast for 2 people at the Double Red Duke, part of the Country Creatures group of inns owned by Old Girl Georgie Pearman (Oram Hawkins, MGC 1991) and her husband. The DRD, a historic coaching inn in the heart of the Cotswolds has earned rave reviews from the likes of Giles Coren, William Sitwell, Jay Rayner, Elle, Conde Nast Traveler and many more for its intimate, luxury feel, great food and wine, and attention to detail. Sit by one of the open fires, snuggle into the nooks and crannies in winter or enjoy the stunning gardens in the Summer, and plentiful walks in the Oxfordshire countryside.
The weekend is to be used before the end of February 2022.
A stay of 2-7 nights in this beautiful mid-terrace cottage in the Keswick area in the Lake District could be yours. This highly rated property has 3 bedrooms sleeping 5 people with pubs, shops, restaurants, the Theatre by the Lake on the doorstep and views onto Grisedale Pike and Causey Pike.
Dates exclude May half term and between 22 Jul-31 Aug 2022 but can be chosen from all other dates available at the time of selection.
The raffle will close at 5pm on Monday 13 December and the winners will be notified by Wednesday 15 December. There will be two winners - first pulled will win the week's holiday in the Lake District, and the second will win the weekend at The Double Red Duke.
Lead DonationsCould you be a lead donor to the Bursary Fund, in a position to donate early to the appeal which will allow us to match-fund money raised, or ‘unlock’ additional donations if we reach certain thresholds? Would you offer match-funding for the money raised by the girls in the Santa Dash? If so, please call us in the Development Office.

& Introducing our first MSJ Shwopping Event in York Hall
ShwoppingWhat is shwopping? It’s a hybrid of shopping and swapping: bring in clothes in excellent condition that you no longer want, and swap them for someone else’s clothes in excellent condition that they no longer want.
Sustainable, guilt-free, planet-friendly shopping.
A small entrance fee on the door and any other proceeds raised at Shwopping will be donated to West Mercia Women’s Aid.
Start sorting a ‘shwopping pile’ of womens/girls clothes, shoes and accessories now, ready to bring into school in the week before Giving Day (we'll issue specific instruction shortly).
We are also looking for a ‘must have’ item(s) – for example a designer handbag or accessory – that we could auction. Let us know if you have anything you would be prepared to give.
Please RSVP to indicate if you would like to join us for Carols in the Quad and/or the Shwopping Event
Thank you!MSJ Giving Day is about coming together as a community, having fun, celebrating the School run-up to Christmas, but it also has a serious message: it’s about raising funds for the MSJ Bursary Fund.
