MSJ Prep (Year 3 – Year 6)

Welcome to MSJ Prep

From Year 3 to Year 6, we guide your child as they grow from early learners into confident, independent pupils ready for Senior School.

Small and supportive

Set in the heart of the beautiful Malvern Hills, MSJ offers an exceptional education for day and boarding pupils aged 3–18. With a proud 132-year heritage of empowering pupils, we were excited to become a co-educational school in September 2025, welcoming boys into our community while staying true to our deeply held values.

Inside the classroom

Mathematics, English and the Humanities are taught by your child’s Form Teacher in small classes which allow for every pupil to thrive.

PE lessons are taken by a Prep PE specialist who leads lessons and organizes fixtures in Hockey, Netball, Football, Swimming, Dance, Athletics, Tennis, Cricket and more. Music, Science, Art, Computing, Design Technology and French are also taken by specialist teachers.

Outside the classroom

Enrichment and Outdoor Education lessons allow your child to explore additional educational adventures and include topics like gardening, cookery, first aid, classics, coding, archery and a new language. In addition, most of our Prep pupils choose to have instrumental lessons with a member of our wonderful Music Team.

Co-curricular fun

As well as a wealth of clubs to choose from, many pupils decide to stay beyond the end of the school day to enjoy extra-curricular activities together. These include Prep Orchestra, Ballet – Tap – Modern Dance, a range of sports clubs, Horse Riding, Speech & Drama and Young Investigators. If your child does not wish to take advantage of these, our free wrap around care until 1800 gives your child an opportunity to do their homework at school and to play with their friends supervised by our able team of After School Club Staff.

Smooth transition to Senior School

When your child reaches the end of the Prep, their teachers work closely with Senior School staff to make sure that the transition into Year 7 is seamless, ensuring an appropriate leap in independence without undue anxiety for the pupils or their parents at this important point in your child’s educational journey.

Parent quote

“As parents, communication with our child’s class teacher has been exceptional; responses have been thorough, child-focused and bespoke to our child’s needs. The pastoral approach exhibited at MSJ has been creative and flexible. There is an openness that has allowed us, as parents, to feel valued and listened to.”
