MSJ Sixth Form Boarding

A home away from home

We have two boarding Houses for Sixth Form and the provision is distinctive, enhanced by our exceptional team of experienced and dedicated House Staff. The Sixth Form experience in Poulton (Year 12) and Greenslade (Year 13) offers a warm and supportive environment, serving as a great transition between School and University life.

Poulton

Poulton is our Year 12 boarding house, located at the top of the main school building with amazing views over Malvern and a short commute down to the dining room. Poulton offers pupils an excellent start to their Sixth Form studies where we work hard but play hard too.

Independence is the key to Sixth Form boarding, giving pupils the skills they will need for university in a safe and secure environment with staff to support them pastorally and academically. In Year 12, pupils have a great deal of autonomy over how they plan their days, with staff to assist to ensure they are striking a good balance between study and leisure time.

In Sixth Form pupils are able to make excellent use of the school’s facilities in the evenings with the Library, Sixth Form Centre, Art rooms and Gym all open until late, as well as the privilege of going to town in the evening for a meal, with permission.

Most importantly boarding in Poulton will teach pupils to do their own laundry, start learning how to cook meals, manage their finances and time, ask for help when they need it and how to look after each other.

Greenslade

Greenslade is the Year 13 transition to University house. We help to further foster independence and prepare our students for life beyond MSJ with the knowledge of how to create a work-life balance. All students benefit from a single room, excellent WiFi and large study and social areas, all supported by our experienced house staff.

Breakfast is served every day in House as a Year 13 privilege; this includes a range of freshly cooked pastries, cereals and fruit, or pupils can also go to the main School building for a cooked breakfast.

Pupils will develop their independence through doing their own laundry, managing their time effectively and having the privilege to go further afield with their friends, whether to the cinema or out for meals.

There are a wide range of activities in the communal areas including cookery in the kitchens and socials in the ‘Big Sit’. These add to the warm and homely atmosphere throughout Greenslade.
