Roseanna’s Journey at MSJ: Exploring Life from Pre-Prep to Sixth Form

My name is Roseanna, I’m in Year 12 and I joined MSJ at the age of four. I remember Pre-Prep as a vibrant place, filled with colour, laughter and discovery. The teaching is completely immersive and we learned through play; I have such vivid memories of hatching butterflies in the classroom and singing on the way to Woodland School. It left a lasting impression and gave us all such an enthusiasm for learning. It’s a nurturing environment where personalities are encouraged and friendships blossom.

Music, dancing, and play filled our days, making the learning process so enjoyable that we didn’t even realise we were learning. There was always a theme in the classrooms, and we had many dress-up days, transforming into pirates, princesses, mermaids, and everything in between.

I formed many of my core memories in Pre-Prep, whether it was in school plays, playing the donkey in the nativity, or having snowball fights. There was always something to look forward to. One of my earliest memories was when I was scared of jumping in the swimming pool – my teacher jumped in with me whilst wearing all of her clothes, to help me overcome that fear.

One of the best things about Pre-Prep is the incredible support and dedication of the teachers – it’s something special, and something that is continued throughout the school. From Reception, they instil a sense of confidence, enthusiasm and determination in every one of us, encouraging us to flourish and discover our passions and talents.

I remember in Year 1, I did my first drum solo in front of the whole school. I wore a pink fairy costume, and I could barely reach the cymbals. Everyone was so incredibly supportive and it created a sense of confidence which I still have today. I’ve maintained my passion for music and play on that same school drum kit. I know that Pre-Prep has had such a positive, formative impact on my personality and has shaped me into the person I am today.

It’s an environment where everyone thrives – we were all so different but everyone was encouraged to be kind, be ourselves and be enthusiastic. There’s now a group of us in Sixth form, who have been here from day one, now aspiring lawyers, sportswomen and scientists.

I think it’s a huge advantage to be in an all-girls environment from the start. The sisterhood here is strong and develops as you move through the school – relationships are endorsed across all years. When I was in Pre-Prep, there were lots of older girls who I looked up to and used to wave to every morning, and now I’m one of those girls who Prep pupils wave to.

In Pre-Prep, I loved Maths, Music and English most, and these are the subjects I’m studying at A Level. I’m hoping to read English at university and then do a Law conversion course. As a Music and Academic Scholar, and someone who takes part in a myriad of clubs, ranging from Debating to Choir, I find that there’s always something to be excited about, just as there was in Pre-Prep.

I can’t emphasise enough how special and vibrant this place is. It’s a magical place to grow up and holds a special place in my heart – I hope that it will for your daughters too.
