Oxford Open Day, July 1st 2025
These are some of the comments from a group of our ambitious and aspiring students from Year 12 and Year 10 who recently attended the Oxford Open to find out more about the courses, student experiences and the application process. It was a really successful trip that helps students to make informed decisions about their future and was run by Dr Jones, Head of Enrichment.
“Our Oxford trip was a really insightful way to explore our future endeavours. My group toured many colleges, our favourite being Brasenose with its historical buildings and enthusiastic tight knit community. We discovered the countless activities available outside of academia but also got to experience Oxford’s renowned teaching in a taster English lecture. This event was a great way to work as a team as we were assigned the task of planning out our trip beforehand, whilst also be able to communicate with Oxford student reporesentatives from all over the world on the day.” Haddy Yr 12
“We went to the Biomedical Science department first and gained a lot from the talk. After that, two professors told us about studying at Oxford university and the information we need to know to apply for the university. Next, we went to the Chemistry department and the teaching lab were various pieces of equipment were set up. Finally, we went to the History of Science Museum. To sum up, this trip is helpful and useful not only for the application for universities, but also for understanding university life and studying.” Luna Yr 10
“Today we went to the Biomedical science and Chemistry buildings, and we listened to several lectures about the content of the courses and useful information about applying. The questions asked in the lecture proved to be really insightful. The chemistry teaching lab was impressive, and we learned about the undergraduates’ general tasks in the laboratory. This trip was really beneficial as it helped inform me about the decisions that surround choosing my major.” Yisi Yr 10
“I had a great day at the Oxford open day. I visited Lincoln College where I was able to see the undergraduate student accommodation, I attended a biochemistry lecture that explained the grades I would need to apply and I also found out about the reality of university life. At Christ Church, I was able to see some of the iconic Harry Potter scenes. The medicine lecture was fascinating and made me more excited about studying science and medicine.” Maya Yr 10

“At our Oxford University open day, we visited a multitude of collages including Lincoln, Christ Church and Corpus Christi. We also attended a biochemistry and medicine lecture. This experience has allowed me to gain a view on university life and how I could see myself moving forward. I also found out about the level of expectations they have for students in applying for a course. For example, in Biochemistry you need an A*,A,A. These lectures have been an inspiring opportunity, allowing me to see how I can move forward with my studies in the upcoming years.” Eleanor Yr 10
“Today’s open day at Oxford University was filled with useful information and tips on how to get into the university and the details of the selected courses in the talks that we chose to go to. We went to Biochemistry and Medicine lectures, and they consisted of tips from current lecturers and detailed opportunities available in different subject departments! The biochemistry talks inspired me to look further into the varied courses within science, and the medicine talks allowed me to look deeper into my career path and what I need to do to get there.” Tia Yr 10
