We were pleased to host Six, a Teen edition of the production involving members of our sixth form department, the girls spent many hours and days prepping and planning to put on a spectacular show for their peers, staff and parents. Helping to bring the community together. It’s safe to say that they worked incredibly hard and put their heart and soul into their performances and we couldn’t be more proud of them!

The performances took place over two days, a Friday afternoon performance on 7th February and an evening performance on Saturday 8th February. The girls displayed a raw and honest re-telling of the history of Henry’s six wives, using costumes to show the differences in all of their personalities and how they reflect their individual story. The work ethic of the sixth-formers involved is something to be admired, their stamina and involvement has been helpful to the teachers directing by asking questions and never tiring of rehearsing, even when they have had mocks to complete.

Director, Mrs Miller says about the girls involved “they have passion, drive and commitment and bring their own special something to the role, this show belongs to them”. This sentiment rings true, the girls have each in their own way blossomed and come together to put on an amazing show!
We heard from an audience member who attended the Saturday evening show and here’s what they had to say, “the talent of the girls shines through in each of their performances in the production, using humour to engage the audience and dazzling us with their spectacular singing and dancing, it was an honour to attend and everyone had the best time”. To say we are proud of all the girls involved is an understatement, they have truly blown us away and have worked incredibly hard, we hope they are feeling proud of themselves, because they should be.

Here’s what the girls said:
Caitlyn

Being in SIX has been an absolute honour. Thank you for letting me take care of Catherine of Aragon. I had such a fun time rehearsing with all the queens, and it’s a perfect way to end my musical journey at MSJ. I hope you like my version of Aragon and get ready for our histo-rewrite!!
Monica

It has been a really interesting and exciting experience to be in SIX. It’s a great honour to be Anne Boleyn, she is an ambitious, charismatic, intelligent and tragic character. Everyone worked in perfect harmony and we have accomplished a flawless piece together. This will be the best performance I ever have!

Being new to MSJ at sixth form, and being a part of Six, has been a wonderful experience and I can’t wait to start and end my musical theatre career at MSJ in this role. Playing Jane Seymour has been a pleasure and I hope I am able to do her character and story justice. Hope you all enjoy the show!
Charlotte

I have thoroughly enjoyed taking control of my character and exploring the ways in which Anne’s sassy, confident and exaggerated personality can be achieved. Anne was never going to win the competition (even if it was real) but she doesn’t care because she is winning in life and didn’t really lose anything from her marriage to Henry VIII. Being part of this cast is by far my favourite memory of Sixth Form and being on stage with them is a feeling like no other. The cast is very powerful and perfect for the ‘leading ladies’ that they play.
Amelia

Taking part in our ‘SIX’ the musical has honestly been one of the most intense, exiting and fulfilling experience I have ever been a part of. Over the years I’ve been in my fair share of productions but nothing has come close to the joy I have felt participating in this. Throughout the rehearsal period I’ve had opportunity after opportunity to fully immerse myself in the production: from acting and dancing all the way to set. And for that I will be ever grateful to Mrs Miller and Miss Maxwell!
Abigail

I have loved every moment of playing Catherine Parr in this production of SIX. Not only have I had an incredible time, but working with the rest of the cast has been amazing, and I couldn’t ask for better people to take on this production with! Playing Catherine Parr has taught me that whatever hard challenges I may face, I will survive and that it will always make me stronger on the other side. Thank you for letting me take on Cathy Parr and for letting me make her my own. I hope you enjoy the show!
