Creative Performance in Lake Garda

On Wednesday 12July pupils from the music department flew out to Italy for 4 days to take part in an exciting tour of Lake Garda.

Our musicians were able to experience what it’s like to perform in some of the beautiful venues in the area. During the tour the girls gave three concerts in different venues with contrasting repertoire: in the churches they performed mostly sacred choral music with some instrumental solos, whilst in the outdoor venues they shared a more secular, light-hearted programme with instrumental groups and small ensembles.

In addition to the musical focus of our trip, they took part in some exciting excursions and activities including riding the cable car up Monte Baldo, a boat trip around Lake Garda and a day out at Caneva Aquapark. They also celebrated their tour with an evening at an authentic Italian restaurant in Lake Garda.

Our Music Tour to Lake Garda was a triumph! The MSJ musicians excelled themselves: their performances were of the highest level, prompting a standing ovation in one venue, and even the wind and a squeaky piano pedal could not deter them from a highly professional approach. They took advantage of the cultural opportunities on offer whilst away, exploring the towns around Lake Garda and sampling copious amounts of pizza and gelato. It was a real pleasure to be able to spend five days with them all. The question is….where do we go next?

MRS MILLER, HEAD OF MUSIC

I really enjoyed the Music Tour as it felt good to be able to share our school’s music with others, which was enjoyed by everyone. It was also fun to learn about the culture of another country and to be able to explore places with my friends that I’ve never been before. I particularly enjoyed our day in Sirmione and being able to spend time right by, and in, Lake Garda.
