Old Girls’ Association
About the Old Girls’ Association (OGA)
The Old Girls’ Association (OGA) is our alumnae group which incorporates Old Girls of Malvern St James and all of its founding schools – Malvern Girls’ College, St James’s School, The Abbey, St James’s & The Abbey and Lawnside.
The Old Girls’ Association comprises over 4,500 members and, as well as providing social opportunities to bring old friends back together, we are very firmly committed to providing professional networking opportunities to our Old Girl community and current pupils at Malvern St James. We do this by providing a network of contacts with experience and expertise across a wealth of business sectors incorporating Old Girls who are just starting out, to those who have made it to the very top of their professions, and every stage in between.
We organise events in London and Malvern each year – some social, some professional – and it is great to see alumnae turning out in force for whole-School reunions which we host once a year.
In March 2019 we launched our Malvern Alumnae 100 campaign, showcasing some of our most inspirational Old Girls, who are achieving or have achieved amazing things in their careers, in volunteering or social/community projects. An exhibition is permanently on display around School, showcasing the profiles of these women, and more than 40 of them attended a launch event, to share their wisdom and advice with current pupils.
The OGA’s first London Carol Service took place in December 2019 and we had over 20 Old Girls performing alongside our current MSJ choir under the Direction of MSJ’s Head of Vocal Studies and Musical Performance, Mrs Lynne Lindner. The event was magical with exquisite performances and we hope to organise similar events in the future.
We are very grateful to Old Girls who volunteer to come back to School to give University and Careers Lectures and Workshops; who offer mentoring advice by phone, email and Skype; who offer work shadowing and internship experiences; who participate at the Malvern St James Careers Fair; who conduct mock interviews for University entrance and who act as mentors and wise guides to current pupils and our younger Old Girls.
If you think you would like to be involved in any of these, please get in touch via oga@malvernstjames.co.uk. Also take a look at our professional and social networking hub at MSJ Community. The more people who join, the stronger, better and more useful this becomes.
With Old Girls located all over the world, the Association should allow you to reach out to others who have shared the Malvern experience. If you are looking for a friendly face and local advice MSJ Community is a great place to start.
