Year 5 had the chance to head to the School pool for a kayaking lesson with Mr Beaumont, Head of Outdoor Pursuits. The Kayaking lesson is just one part of the Outdoor Learning Programme which sees the girls experiencing a different activity each term.

The girls learnt how to get in and out of the kayak safely, how to paddle and built up their confidence in the water through a range of games.

Bethan, Year 5 said “Mr Beaumont taught us how to kayak and we played really fun games, we also learnt how to turn over on the kayak. This experience was so fun, I learnt a lot in just one afternoon and I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to have a go at this sport here at MSJ, in our very own swimming pool.”

Freya, Year 5 said “It was so much fun! I never thought I would enjoy myself as much as I did. We learnt how to paddle in the kayaks, to get on and off it and we even had some races at the end of the session too. We enjoyed it very much and cannot wait to have another go again soon.”

Michelle, Year 5, “When I first entered the kayaks, I was a bit scared, but it did make me feel better that my teacher, Miss Townsend was there and Mr Beaumont too, who is a professional. Mr Beaumont showed us how to do cool things in our kayaks, such as getting out of it safely and flipping it around while we were still in it! This truly was a wonderful experience and I really enjoyed it. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to have done this at MSJ, in our very own pool.”
