Giving Day, a global celebration of philanthropy, took centre stage at MSJ on November 28-29. During this event, we launched our Christmas Bursary Bauble appeal, an initiative set to run until the end of the term.

Bursaries, fee remissions based on financial need, play a crucial role in supporting families. Rigorously means-tested, these bursaries aim to assist those who truly require financial aid. Despite the school's annual funding of approximately £1/2 million, the demand for bursaries exceeds our current capacity. Hence, fundraising becomes essential to expand our provision.

The Bursary Bauble campaign is a seasonal call for bursary fundraising. Donors can sponsor a bursary bauble at different levels (£20, £75, £150, or £500), each adorned with their name tag and Christmas message, and proudly displayed in York Hall. Every penny raised contributes directly to the Bursary Fund.

As of now, around 87 baubles dance in the light, transforming our main hall into a festive and magical space until Christmas. These means-tested bursaries currently support 1 in 4 girls at school, and our ambitious goal is to raise £2 million by 2025, allowing us to extend our reach and offer fully-funded places to bright and talented girls from ordinary families.

Beyond fundraising, Giving Day and the Bursary Bauble launch were marked by memorable events. The Christmas Cracker Challenge on the Astro, involving all pupils and staff, the Christmas Staff Quiz challenge, and the enchanting Christmas light switch-on with carols around the tree in the evening, turned the day into a celebration for all, with parents, friends, and family joining the festivities.

It’s not too late to contribute to this appeal: please click here to donate.

And, of course, we are always looking at ways to add to the Bursary Fund. If you would like to donate outside of the Christmas Bursary Bauble appeal, we would be delighted to talk to you.

It is possible to tailor bursaries to areas of academic or extra-curricular school life, or for donors to give in memory of a loved one or inspirational teacher, Housemistress or Headmistress.
