On 20 and 21 June, Malvern St James hosted the Virtual Festival of Wellbeing which reached an audience of girls – present and past – parents, staff, other educational practitioners and members of the wider public.

The festival, which Director of Pastoral Care, Mrs Zinnia Wilkinson and Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead, Miss Keri Haw had originally been planned as a live event, to be held in the Dome Gardens. With the onslaught of COVID-19, their focus changed to planning a remote event, which allowed the potential audience to be considerably larger than originally envisaged.

The two-day event comprised of talks, workshops and live Q & A sessions provided by a diverse and fascinating group of wellbeing professionals and celebrities. These included Steve Backshall MBE, TV’s wildlife expert and adventurer; Helen Glover MBE, rower and Olympic gold medal winner; Natasha Devon, Mental Health and Wellbeing speaker, writer and activist and James Shone, ex-pastoral lead and founder of a charity focused on building self-esteem in our young. In addition, there were talks on eating disorders, Black Lives Matters, self-care and the power of kindness.

The programme was excellent, proving to be both educational and thought-provoking in content. We were thrilled with the success of the festival and will definitely plan to run other similar events in the future.
