Malvern St James Girls’ School is proud to announce that from September 2025, it will be welcoming boys at all ages (3-18) for the first time in its 132-year history.

The School will be known as Malvern St James School (MSJ), as it aligns with other schools within the Galaxy Global Education Group (GGEG), of which MSJ is a part.

Following a successful inspection in February that recognised the excellence of MSJ’s teaching, learning, pastoral care, boarding provision, co-curricular activities programme, and the demonstrable practice of values-driven education, the School is keen to extend this opportunity to boys.

MSJ is also responding to a global society that on balance, favours co-education, thus ensuring future security within a competitive market.

Head, Dr Gareth Lloyd, recognised that this news might be received with a mixture of emotions.

“I want to assure everyone that this transition is rooted in an educational philosophy that embraces inclusion, respect and preparation for life beyond MSJ.”

“We believe that welcoming boys to MSJ will enrich the learning environment, broaden perspectives, and provide every student with an even stronger foundation for success beyond school.”

In becoming a co-educational school, MSJ’s core philosophy and values will remain unchanged. The School has always stood for academic excellence, personal growth and the development of character, and these principles will continue.

MSJ also defines itself as a distinctive, co-educational school, which prides itself on being small, nurturing and respectful, yet with a global perspective.

Facilities are being assessed to ensure that they are welcoming and accommodating for boys, while enhancing the experience for all students. This includes making the necessary adjustments which will not only support boys’ needs but also significantly improve such areas as sports facilities for the benefit of all students. Above all, MSJ is a place of learning; and this transition presents a powerful opportunity to elevate our educational excellence, enrich our diverse community, and equip our students with the skills, confidence, and global perspective needed to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
