Entry Process

At Malvern St James Girls’ School (MSJ) we understand choosing the right school for your daughter is an important decision. Our experienced Admissions Team will support you and your daughter throughout the admissions process. We are here to help answer any questions you may have and guide you through the process.

We recognise and actively support the individual talents, interests and passions of girls. Our admissions process is designed to identify how we can nurture and support your daughter to achieve her ambitions and goals. We want your daughter to enjoy the pursuit of learning, whichever pathway her journey takes. We want her to take full advantage of the breadth of opportunity available to her at MSJ.

The majority of girls join School in September, at the start of the academic year. We do consider entries throughout the year if circumstances need. We recommend formal registration is submitted by the Autumn term preceding your daughter’s intended enrolment date.

We accept pupils in all year groups in MSJ Prep. The main entry points for MSJ Seniors are 11+ (Year 7) and 13+ (Year 9). For MSJ Sixth Form we welcome pupils in Year 12. If places are available, we do accept girls into Year 8 and Year 10.

The admissions journey usually begins with a visit to School. We recommend you join us for an Open Event or arrange a Personal Visit.

A visit to School gives you an excellent opportunity to experience the School environment and our ethos first-hand. You also have the opportunity to discuss your daughter’s education with our Head, Dr Gareth Lloyd.

Formal Registration is the next step of the Admissions process, the registration fee is payable at this stage. Registration provisionally reserves a place for your daughter at Malvern St James and allows her to sit our Entrance Examinations.

We encourage girls to attend School for a taster day. A taster day gives your daughter the opportunity to experience a typical School day and meet her peers and teachers, and for assessments to take place. For those looking to Board, we can arrange a Sleepover in one of our Boarding Houses.

You can fill in and submit a Registration Form online to start the enrolment process. Please contact Admission for a hard copy of this document if preferred.

Following completion of Registration, your daughter will be invited to sit our Entrance Exams. Entry to Malvern St James is based on the potential your daughter demonstrates in our assessments and a satisfactory confidential report, addressing both academic and pastoral matters from your daughter’s present school. Applicants are also interviewed by a senior member of staff, either in person or online.
