Entry Process
We recognise and actively support the individual talents, interests and passions of our students. Our admissions process is designed to identify how we can nurture and support your child to achieve their ambitions and goals. We want your child to enjoy the pursuit of learning, whichever pathway their journey takes. We want them to take full advantage of the breadth of opportunity available to them at MSJ.
The majority of students join School in September, at the start of the academic year. We do consider entries throughout the year if circumstances need. We recommend formal registration is submitted by the Autumn term preceding your son or daughter’s intended enrolment date.
We accept pupils in all year groups in MSJ Prep. The main entry points for MSJ Seniors are 11+ (Year 7) and 13+ (Year 9). For MSJ Sixth Form we welcome pupils in Year 12. If places are available, we do accept students into Year 8 and Year 10.
The admissions journey usually begins with a visit to School. We recommend you join us for an Open Event or arrange a Personal Visit.
A visit to School gives you an excellent opportunity to experience the School environment and our ethos first-hand. You also have the opportunity to discuss your child’s education with our Head, Dr Gareth Lloyd.
Formal Registration is the next step of the Admissions process, the registration fee is payable at this stage. Registration provisionally reserves a place for your son or daughter at Malvern St James and allows them to sit our Entrance Examinations.
We encourage everyone to attend School for a taster day. A taster day gives your child the opportunity to experience a typical School day and meet their peers and teachers, and for assessments to take place. For those looking to Board, we can arrange a Sleepover in one of our Boarding Houses.
You can fill in and submit a Registration Form online to start the enrolment process. Please contact Admission for a hard copy of this document if preferred.
Following completion of Registration, your son or daughter will be invited to sit our Entrance Exams. Entry to Malvern St James is based on the potential your child demonstrates in our assessments and a satisfactory confidential report, addressing both academic and pastoral matters from your child’s present school. Applicants are also interviewed by a senior member of staff, either in person or online.
