Prep Teaching Assistant

Accountability
The Teaching Assistant is accountable to the Head of MSJ via the Head of Prep, the Deputy
Head Academic around matters relating to curriculum, teaching and learning, and the Deputy
Head Pastoral on matters relating to pupil wellbeing and pastoral care.
Purpose of the Job
Under the direction of the Class teacher, the Teaching Assistant is to support pupils within School in order to facilitate
their access to a broad and balanced curriculum. The successful candidate will also need to assist the class teacher
in providing a stimulating educational environment in which all pupils can achieve their potential in the following
ways:

General Duties
• Support and assist with the educational, physical, cultural, emotional and social needs of all pupils;
• Work closely with the Head of Prep to provide an outstanding level of care and education;
• Help pupils to learn as effectively as possible both in group sessions and individually;
• Ensure the smooth daily operation of classrooms

Minibus Driver

Department: Operations
Accountable to: Transport Manager

To transport day pupils from the surrounding area to School and return.  This is a zero-hour contract between the hours of 0600-0830hrs and 1545 -2015hrs Mon-Fri and occasionally as required at weekends for school trips.

Key duties

  • Driving a School minibus in a safe and legal manner to ensure the safe transportation of School pupils from the surrounding area to School and return. This includes conducting a thorough mini bus check before and after each journey and filling out required paperwork, which is filed and maintained by the Transport Manager.
  • Drive to pick up points as instructed by the Transport Manager, ensuring that pupils are picked up on time and arrive at school by 8:30am Monday to Friday (traffic & weather permitting).
  • To provide transport for trips and any additional fixtures when required.
  • To report any faults, breakdown and accident procedures with the school minibuses to the Transport Manager as soon as possible.
  • To carry the school mobile phone for communication with parents and management when necessary.
  • To take reasonable steps to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils under your care and supervision as their minibus driver; this includes that pupils remain well-behaved at all times throughout the journey.
  • To report all complaints and incidents with pupils, parents or the public to the Transport Manager on return to School.
  • To communicate with the Transport Manger (and parents if applicable) about any external factors that may affect their run, as soon as they are known. For example road works, flooding, snow etc.
  • To attend an annual eye test provided by School.
  • To attend annual safeguarding training provided by School and to attend any additional training as directed by the Transport Manager.
  • Once trained and assuming the driving licence permits it, to tow a trailer attached to the minibus, when required.
  • Following Malvern St James’ policies and procedures with regard to the safe transportation of pupils at all times.
  • Ensuring that the minibus is left in a safe & clean manner and secured at the end of each shift and when it is not in use during each shift.
  • To be responsible for ensuring there is an adequate amount of fuel left in the minibus for its next journey.

    Lifeguard and Sports Assistant

    To supervise the security and safety of all users at both the pool and Sports Centre and carry out rescues as required. You will need to be reliable and committed to every session.

    • Dress accordingly for the role using uniform supplied by MSJE or alternative approved attire.
    • To complete opening and closing procedures of the facility as required.
    • Welcome members, parents, and all users of the swimming pool and Sports Centre on arrival, promoting a positive image of the facility. Also wish visitors farewell on departure.
    • To comply with Pool Safe Operating Procedures (PSOP) and be always alert.
    • To maintain a vigilant watch of the swimming pool area in accordance with the Normal Operating Procedures (NOP) and take necessary action to ensure the safety of all users.
    • To comply with the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) when required
    • Complete on-site lifeguard training once a month and attend any other relevant training courses as required by MSJE.
    • To carry out cleaning duties within the swimming pool and Sports Centre if required.
    • Report any damage or malfunction of equipment or the pool building and Sports Centre to the duty supervisor.
    • Report any maintenance issues and pass on any customer complaints to the duty supervisor.
    • To ensure that any lost property is returned to the main Sports Centre building.
    • To read and respond to communications and information which is disseminated by the Sports Centre Team.
    • Cover front of house at the Sports Centre, taking phone calls, customer payments and dealing with enquiries in a polite manner.
    • Assist with the setting up and taking down of equipment for lessons and bookings at the Sports Centre.
    • Undertake any other duties and responsibilities, commensurate with the grade of the post, properly directed by the Sports Centre Manager.
    • To assist with the delivery of classes if qualified.

      Head of Futures

      The Role
      • To provide leadership in the development and management of Careers throughout the school;
      • To contribute to curriculum planning in relation to Careers Education Guidance (CEG) and regulatory
      requirements;
      • To carry out such other associated duties as reasonably assigned by the Head.
      Malvern St James is committed to preparing pupils well for life beyond school, quipping them with the
      knowledge and skills to be successful via an innovative and relevant programme. Access to employers and
      information about employment, universities and alternative pathways post 18 is vital.
      The Head of Futures will work alongside the Higher Education team who give advice on applications to UK
      and overseas universities and apprenticeships to deliver an integrated programme and set the overarching
      and strategic direction for Careers Education. We are keen to make greater use of alumnae, current parents
      and employers to deliver a relevant and exciting programme where pupils can identify skills and aptitudes
      that can be applied to a range of higher education and employment opportunities. The Department is
      currently working towards the Quality in Careers award.
      There are two possible routes to achieve the delivery of Careers Education at Malvern St James:
      • Route 1 – A 3 day a week, qualified Careers Advisor. This is a non-teaching post. Salary will be dependent
      on experience and qualifications;
      • Route 2 – A 0.4 of a full-time timetable role for a teacher or a 2 day a week post for someone who will
      organise and deliver the wider programme within the school and facilitate the outsourcing of
      independent Careers advice to maintain neutrality.

        Part time Fitness Supervisor

        The role of the Part Time Fitness Supervisor is to assist the Sports Centre Manager and the
        Fitness Supervisor with the day to day running of the state of the art sports centre. This will
        primarily include the delivery of classes, managing the gym, hire facilities, front of house
        reception, lifeguarding if required, setting equipment up and providing support to other
        members of the team where required. The individual will be responsible developing
        professional relationships and assisting with marketing the centre.
