Welcome from the Headmistress at Malvern St James

Head's Welcome

"Malvern St James Girls’ School is a truly exceptional community,  where girls thrive in their learning, inspired by the talents and energy of our staff.  I am immensely proud of our girls: from the youngest to the oldest, they are interested and engaged with the world around them, embracing life both socially and intellectually.

I ask our girls to work hard, play hard and look after each other:

  • to work hard - because life is competitive and top academic results are critical to leading universities and career opportunities around the world;
  • to play hard - through sport, music, drama and  a plethora of co-curricular activities  because this is where our girls learn the critical life skills of teamwork, leadership, perseverance, resilience, humour and patience;  and most importantly,
  • to look after each other – because as compassionate human beings, we have a duty to bring all our academic achievements, our skills and personal qualities, to bear upon our communities, to have a positive impact on the lives of those around us now, and in the future.

Our staff complement this message by inspiring happiness. Happiness in the classroom is about giving girls the courage to develop lifelong skills, explore new opportunities, and build resilience to overcome challenges.

Happiness is about a community that thrives on communication, respectful behaviour, the celebration of inclusion and diversity, kindness and approachability.

You will witness all of these values, day in, day out, here at MSJ.

We pride ourselves on giving our girls freedom to be themselves and to have a confident, articulate voice.

Please do come and visit, and we shall proudly show you who we are, what we do, and how we do it!"

Warmest wishes,

Dr Gareth P Lloyd, Head
