Malvern St James Child Protection Policy deals with the essential policy issues implicit in Child Protection. It is a guiding principle of the law and child protection procedures that the protection and welfare of the child must always be the first priority. The protection of children and young people is a shared community responsibility. The Children Act 1989 is the legislative authority for child welfare and protecting children from abuse. The School Child Protection Policy is in accordance with the procedures agreed by the Worcestershire Safeguarding Children Board Inter-Agency Child Protection Policies and Procedures.
Malvern St James is a caring School where girls are valued as individuals who are listened to. There are many adults to whom girls can turn for help. These include teaching staff, house staff, the Health Centre staff and the School Chaplain.
Awareness of Child Protection issues is raised with girls through the Curriculum and Personal, Social and Health Education/Citizenship lessons.
Any member of staff who is told of an incident or who has strong suspicion of child abuse occurring in the School, or to a pupil of the School at home or outside the School, must report the information to the designated member of staff. If the allegation or suspicion implicates the designated member of staff, then the report should be made to the nominated member of the School Council.
The Headmistress is the designated senior member of staff (DSMS) for dealing with Child Protection Procedures. The deputy designated senior member of staff is the Deputy Headmistress.
The Rev'd Prebendary Carl Attwood is the nominated member of the School Council for dealing with Child Protection Procedures.
