Year 12 Biology Fieldtrip

Year 12 Biology Fieldtrip

On a lovely, bright early spring day, thirty year 12 biologists and their three teachers enjoyed a one day fieldtrip to Chaddesley Woods in Worcestershire. This site is owned by the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust and it is managed carefully, to ensure that it not only provides a varied habitat for wildlife, but also acts as a leisure facility for walkers and riders.

The group was joined by three tutors from the trust, one of whom has worked with MSJ in previous years and delights in tutoring such dedicated, polite and well-organised students!

The girls were taught how to analyse soil samples, calculate a Diversity Index and how to gather random data on plants on the site. These techniques were then used in earnest, as the girls gathered data for use in their examined practical. They really enjoyed a day out in the fresh air, even those who, on their return, jumped straight back into a minibus to go off on the Geography fieldtrip that evening!
