SIXTH FORM

Mandarin Chinese Speaking Competition

Mandarin Chinese Speaking Competition

Six girls from Years 9 and 12 represented Malvern St James at the HSBC/British Council Mandarin Chinese Speaking Competition, held at the London School of Economics in December.

This competition is designed for non-native speaking learners of Mandarin Chinese who have learnt the language from scratch and gives competitors the opportunity to test their speaking skills in front of an audience of schools from all over the UK and a panel of illustrious judges.

Congratulations to Jennifer Robb, Sarah Okey and Bonnie Macleod (Year 9) and Rosie Baker, Catherine Okey and Nadia Jubilou (Year 12), who all gave a great performance. The girls were coached by our Chinese Teacher, Mrs Wu, and also received valuable advice from some of our Chinese students.

Mrs Wu said, ‘All our girls did very well indeed. Although we didn't get through to the final, competing helped to boost the girls' confidence and was a wonderful experience for them. I would particularly like to thank all our Chinese girls who gave up their own time to help our team practice pronunciation.'
