Good News for the Maths Department

Good News for the Maths Department

The Maths department have been delighted to receive two sets of results this week. Both relate to follow-on rounds from last term’s Senior Maths Challenge.

This year is the first year that the UKMT, who set and run the Maths Challenges in the UK, have had the Senior Kangaroo follow-on round for students who gained very high marks in the Senior Maths Challenge. Students needed to achieve a mark of 84 in the Senior Maths Challenge to be eligible for the Senior Kangaroo. Sweet He, Else Hong and Sophia Ge sat the Senior Kangaroo and Sweet and Else were awarded merits for their solutions. Well done to these girls.

Six pupils did so well in the Senior Challenge that they qualified for the even more demanding follow-on round – the first round of the British Maths Olympiad. Lynx Lin, Cherry Chen, Daisy Zhang, and Jocelyn Liu are to be congratulated for reaching that stage of the competition; only 1 in 1,000 A-level students will even qualify to enter. Special congratulations go to Yini Yan and Weiyi Zhang who were awarded distinctions in this round. These results put them in the top 3 out of 10,000 students!

Well done to all these girls for their wonderful achievements.
