SIXTH FORM

In November, 65 members of the Sixth form attempted the UK Senior Maths Challenge. Despite a range of very challenging questions, our girls did very well – turning in an even better performance than previous years. In all 46 girls were awarded certificates: 10 Gold, 13 Silver and 23 Bronze. Our top six competitors will go forward to the British Maths Olympiad.

Congratulations to everyone who took part and in particular to our Gold Certificate winners: Emma Leese, Tracy Huang, Lucy Cui, Jean Wang, Rannie Ding and Zoe Xu.

Later in the month, MSJ sent a team of top mathematicians to compete in the Regional Final of the Senior Maths Team Challenge. Our team, consisting of Daisy Zhang, Lily Chen, Jean Wang and Zoe Xu, pitted their wits against 13 other schools during three rounds of tough questions. The quality of all the teams was extremely high, but after a spectacular final round our girls were delighted to discover that they had been placed 3rd in the competition – a tremendous achievement.
