Colorado Ski Trip - a report by Mrs Bevan, Head of PE

Twenty two girls from Years 8 - 12 travelled to Copper Mountain in Colorado for the annual school ski trip in December.

Having left very wintry conditions behind in the UK, we arrived to record breaking temperatures in Denver and not a trace of any snow! However, at the actual resort it was a different story with over 4ft of snow at the base of the mountain and the best skiing conditions for 18 years.

The girls all enjoyed learning and improving their skiing and snowboarding skills throughout the week, aided by excellent instruction from the local ski and board school. The powder softened all the landings, whether deliberate or accidental. Even the beginners were able to ride higher up the mountain by the end of the week and challenge themselves with long, wide, spacious runs back to the base.

Evening activities included Tubing, with a choice of four runs to take individually or in pairs or groups. Each run was different and I believe each run was experienced by each girl - more than once!

Shopping at the nearby outlets was another popular choice in the evenings and Christmas shopping is never easier than this! How many managed to fulfil strict airline weight restrictions on the way home, I will never know!

How we managed to arrive back at Heathrow on 22nd December, only 30 minutes later than scheduled with all the chaos caused by the snow and resulting problems at airports – again, I will never know!!

MSJ has run these trips for several years now and while each one is unique and brings its own fantastic memories, they are all always such fun and supported by lovely girls! Planning is now underway for December 2011 and another memorable adventure!
