SIXTH FORM
AS Drama Examination - a report by Mrs Fisher

For the A/S Drama Examination each candidate performed a monologue of her own choice for the audience and the external examiner. This year we had another fascinating and exciting range, including Aeschylus, Strindberg, Mercer and Cameron, to name but a few. The performances were inspiring, at times comical, often very moving, but always entertaining. A big thank you to the Speech and Drama teachers, Ms Hull and Mr Page, who were able to support the candidates in the last week of rehearsal, but most of all, a huge well done to the girls!
The productions this year were the controversial choice of plays by the Nobel Prize winner for Literature, Dario Fo. Both ‘Devil in Drag' and ‘Accidental Death of An Anarchist' are comedies by the political, didactic playwright, which involved a new, demanding genre for the students. However, both groups rose to the considerable challenge and created a hilarious evening of theatre, with excellent characterisation, amazing staging and such fast moving drama it was occasionally difficult for the audience to draw breath. Many audience members were still chuckling as they left the Drama Centre and the examiner (sworn as she is to silence after a performance) did mention that if we check the video, we will see her shoulders going up and down as she tried to contain her laughter and keep her mind on the job! What an enjoyable evening, well done to all the AS Drama Students.
