ARLT Latin Reading Competition

ARLT Latin Reading Competition

Two girls were chosen from the Year 10 and Year 12 Latin groups to enter the Latin competition organised by the ARLT – The Association for Latin Teaching. The girls had to record themselves reading a passage from Virgil's Aeneid. They were judged on both the accuracy of their pronunciation and their understanding of a very emotional passage. Brahm Jagpal came second in the senior section and Elizabeth Rees came second in the junior section of the competition. Both won book tokens as prizes.

Mrs Baird, Head of Classics, said, ‘Latin poetry is meant to be read aloud and it is useful to give students the opportunity to think about the sounds of the poetry that they study. I am very pleased by the dedication shown by these two girls in preparation for this competition.'
