13 MSJ girls from Year 10-13 braved the snow with Mrs
Huntley and Mrs Martin to attend the Model United Nations Conference at Lady
Eleanor Holles School last weekend.

Freezing Fieldwork for Year 12 Geographers!
Mrs Hutton has organised and participated in many field
courses and adventurous trips during her teaching career, including leading
school parties across Icelandic glaciers, through cold and icy lava tubes and over
high altitude Bolivian mountain passes.

The regional final followed the same structure as the
internal heats and the ‘friendly’ contest against Malvern College.

Biology Field Trip
This term the Year 13 biologists enjoyed another highly
successful field trip to the beautiful 17th century Nettlecombe
Court, near Taunton in Devon.

Magical Performance of 'Arabian Nights'
The School production of 'Arabian Nights' last weekend was a huge success.

Creative Workshops for Art Students
Earlier this month, all Year 12 and
13 art students were given the opportunity to take part in a two day intensive
course in Life Drawing led by Dora Paynter.

Autumn Concert
During
the recent Autumn Concert the audience was treated to some of the highlights
from the recent MSJ Choir Tour to Paris, including Poème by Fibich, a beautiful vocal duet by
Tamsin Elsey and Catherine Okey, as well as a superb rendering of Syrinx on the
flute by Catherine.

Debating Success for MSJ
Sophie Coombes Roberts and Toria Jackson, both Year 13,
performed superbly in the first round heats of the Cambridge Union Debating
Compeition held in Oxford last week.

Following on from their visit to the London textile event, Yr 11 and Yr 12 art students had the opportunity to work with professional Textile Artist, Angie Hughes, in a hands-on workshop.

MSJ Students Compete in Maths Team Challenge
24 maths students from Years 12 and 13 took part in a Senior Team Maths Challenge to select the team which would represent MSJ in a friendly inter-school competition against Malvern College.

MSJ Lacrosse Team Victorious Again!
After our triumph at the Welsh Rally, the 1st
team had to step up to a higher calibre of competition when they took part in
the Midlands Schools Tournament.

New Head Girls Announced
We are delighted to announce that Rosie Baker and Jessica Wright have been chosen to succeed Ellie Kirby and Anthea Chung as joint Head Girls.

Results of CICERO Competition Announced
The Cicero Competition results have just been announced at the AGM of the Joint Association of Classical Teachers. Vanessa Ebitu, Year 13, did very well in the cultural test on Jason and the Argonauts and was awarded a ‘Special Mention'.

ARLT Latin Reading Competition
Two girls were chosen from the Year 10 and Year 12 Latin groups to enter the Latin competition organised by the ARLT – The Association for Latin Teaching.

The Cardboard Boat
Michelle Fok has completed a rather different Coursework project for her studies in A Level Design and Technology Product Design. The subject requires the student to take on a challenging project, but her choice is perhaps more challenging than most!

AS Drama Examination - a report by Mrs Fisher
For the A/S Drama Examination each candidate performed a monologue of her own choice for the audience and the external examiner. This year we had another fascinating and exciting range, including Aeschylus, Strindberg, Mercer and Cameron, to name but a few.

Gambia Expedition - Easter 2011
20 Sixth Formers joined Mrs Newby, Mrs Prophet and Mrs Musgrave on The Gambia 2011 Expedition during the Easter holidays. The girls worked on a number of activities and community projects and, everywhere they went, they were welcomed with smiles and wonderful hospitality.

J'Adore Through to the West Midlands Regional Finals!
A Young Enterprise team from MSJ has won the Herefordshire and Worcestershire strategic final earlier this month – the first time in MSJ's history!

Spring Croquet at Shrewsbury
Fourteen croquet players from Years 10 to 13 set off for School House, Shrewsbury School as guests of Mr and Mrs Bell for what is becoming an annual social event; playing croquet and chatting over an informal lunch.

On Saturday 26th March the Lawnside Room was buzzing with excited Latin students from seven schools, local and not so local, who had gathered to take part in the International Cicero Competition.

The South Worcestershire Young Enterprise Area Final took place at Royal Grammar School, Worcester on March 30th.

Model United Nations Conference at Haileybury School - a report by Mrs Huntley
Ten nervous and excited girls set off on Friday 25th March to a Model United Nations Conference at Haileybury School. 600 children from 38 schools here and abroad were representing 115 countries and debating such issues as: children in armed conflicts, the position of Kurds and biodiversity loss.

Year 12 Biology Fieldtrip
On a lovely, bright early spring day, thirty year 12 biologists and their three teachers enjoyed a one day fieldtrip to Chaddesley Woods in Worcestershire.

National Olympiad Science Competitions
Over the past few months, sixth form girls have been taking part in the National Olympiad Competitions in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Our results were exceptional, with several girls achieving commendations and medals.
Wine Tasting and Scottish Reeling
48 sixth formers got together at School House, Malvern College for a Candlelit Wine Tasting Dinner and Scottish Reeling evening. This is an annual event organised jointly by Jamie Russell, Housemaster of School House, and Rachel Huntley of MSJ.
Debating Success at Model United Nations Conference
Last weekend, a team of sixth form girls travelled to Edinburgh as the delegation from Gabon to represent MSJ at a Model United Nations conference.
Victory For Malvern St James at the National Schools Lacrosse Tournament!
Our 1st team began day one of the tournament with a convincing victory over Harrogate College, followed by two very hard fought matches, losing 2-3 and 2-4 in close games, which could have gone either way.

Great Results for Mathematicians
It has been a very exciting term for our Maths Department. Last month, 58 pupils from Years 9 to 11 took part in the Intermediate Maths Challenge Competition.

In November, 65 members of the Sixth form attempted the UK Senior Maths Challenge. Despite a range of very challenging questions, our girls did very well – turning in an even better performance than previous years.

On Monday 15th November, MSJ was honoured to have The Commanding Officer of HMS Trenchant, Irvine Lindsay and his Logistics Officer, Lt Matt Rees pay a visit to School. MSJ is affiliated to four ships, of which HMS Trenchant is one.

We are delighted to announce that a team of Economics students from the Upper Sixth has been placed as runner-up in this year's national Challenge the Chancellor Competition.
