SIXTH FORM
Boarding at Malvern St James
Life in the Sixth Form Houses
Boarders in years 12 and 13 join either Greenslade or Poulton. Greenslade is located a short walk from the School, whilst Poulton is within the main building. Day boarders join Poulton and all have an individual work space in the house. The Housemistress and her team build on the experiences that girls have gained during their time in the other boarding houses and welcome a number of new girls to the Sixth Form community. The comfortable and secure environment within the houses allows the girls to live, study and relax in a homely atmosphere. The girls' time in the Sixth Form provides a perfect transition from the GCSE years to the level of independence expected of them as adults.
The Culture at Greenslade and Poulton
During the two years of A level study, girls are encouraged to establish study techniques which will prepare them for University. They also take a much greater level of responsibility for themselves and others. Carefully monitored, they are given more freedom and learn how to balance their work schedules and their free time. In addition to outings offered to the whole school, they may go to Worcester and Birmingham in groups at the weekend. With the assistance of staff, they take responsibility for dealing with their own finances, travel arrangements, appointments to see the school Doctor and their personal laundry.
Boarding in Greenslade and Poulton
There is a strong sense of community in the houses allowing friendships to flourish, many of which will last a lifetime. In this relaxed environment staff get to know the girls well, respond to their individual needs and strengths and use encouragement, reassurance and praise to ensure that the girls become self-assured and are prepared for life beyond school.
We recognize that boarding supports the modern family, the school experience and the transition to University life. Day girls enjoy the opportunity to benefit from living in a community and many become regular flexi boarders, boarding up to 3 nights each week.
