SENIOR SCHOOL
Years 5 to 8 French Tour - a report from the Junior Department

Salute! The refrains of the beautiful French language are currently echoing through the Junior Department and the Senior School, following the return of pupils from Years 5 to 8 on the recent French Tour to Paris and the surrounding region. Excitement was tangible as everyone arrived at School at 4am on the Friday morning, ready to depart. One long coach trip and a ferry crossing later, and we had arrived on foreign soil. We then embarked on a whirlwind tour of educational visits and attractions starting with the Vimy Ridge War memorial; a day trip to Paris encompassing the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, a cruise up the River Seine, Notre Dame, the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysees; a visit to the historic market town of Brie-Comte-Robert followed by a visit to the famous Chateau Vaux le Vicomte; ending with a visit to the Chocolaterie de Lachelle, where pupils and staff alike spent a heavenly hour absorbed in thetraditional techniques of hand making chocolates. The trip was a resounding success, with the visit to Paris the highlight of the tour for many; whilst the Market Town Trail provided some much needed opportunity for shopping – all in la Belle Françoise, of course! Even Mrs Sherwood was able to expand on her French vocabulary and was encouraged to use her French at every opportunity …much to the dismay of Madame Wadman! A huge thank you to all the staff who made the visit possible, Madame Wadman, Madame Bevan, Monsieur Charles, Mademoiselle Joanes and Mademoiselle Renninger. We cannot wait for the next French Tour in 2013! Au Revoir!
