Year 7 Castle Competition

Year 7 Castle Competition

Year 7 Historians were given the challenge to research castle design and construct a castle using any materials to hand. As their starting point, they had to choose the type of castle they would make: a Motte and Bailey, Stone Keep or Concentric one. The castles were researched in lessons but made in the girls' spare time.

A total of 16 castles were produced and were testament to the extraordinary range of ingenuity, talent, scholarship and teamwork of the year 7s. They would put many museum models to shame! An exhibition was held and the Headmistress quizzed the girls and judged the winners. Congratulations to Flora Barber and Ines Perandin-Granger whose Pottery Keep and Working Bailey was the overall winner. Prize for the Best Replica was awarded to Ekaterina Haines, Christine Tsang and Ani Torresgrosa Perez for their copy of Goodrich Castle. Georgina Hobden, Lucy Walton and Lucinda Hobden won the award for Best Researched and Lara Byrne and Abby Evans won first prize in the Most Original category for their Motte and Bailey castle using a wide range of materials.

Well done to everyone who took part.
