SENIOR SCHOOL
Prizes for MSJ Classics Students

A small team of girls selected from Years 8 to 13, accompanied by Mrs Baird and Mrs Komar, travelled to Cheltenham earlier this month for the Gloucestershire Classical Association Latin Reading Competition. The standard was very high and our girls performed extremely well.
For the Junior section, girls had to read and act, in pairs, a short scene between the manipulative Rufilla and hen-pecked Salvius. All of the MSJ girls were praised for their clear diction and their imaginative interpretations of the piece were a pleasant surprise. Georgina Hobden and Pippa Wollen were awarded 3rd prize and Lucinda Hobden and Sasha Lloyd were runners up.
Elizabeth Rees was awarded 2nd prize in the Intermediate Latin for her reading from Virgils’s Aeneid and Saphie Soros-White received a Commendation.
Anna Baird received 3rd prize for her reading from Homer’s Iliad in the Senior Greek section.
Our girls received several compliments on the day for their reading. All of them should be proud of their achievement in being selected to take part and for their hard work in preparing for the competition. Many congratulations to the prize-winners!
