Olympic Adventure for Year 9

Olympic Adventure for Year 9

On Monday, the Geography Department, with help from Mrs Chuck and Miss MacDonald, took all of Year 9 down to London for an Olympic adventure. The day started very early and the girls battled through the centre of London to reach their first destination - the London Docklands Museum. Here they looked at the regeneration that has taken place in the East End and the impact of the London 2012 Olympic Games on this regeneration. Next stop was the Olympic Park itself where the girls threw themselves into a debate about the sustainability and ultimate legacy of the games. They were asked to consider the long term socio-economic and environmental benefits versus the short term gains. Everyone was thrilled to be so close to the Olympic Park, to look out across the stadium and to see all of the other sporting venues. To witness this historic construction site and to soak up the Olympic atmosphere was well worth the long day and Year 9 were excellent ambassadors for Malvern St James.
