Great Results for Mathematicians

Great Results for Mathematicians

It has been a very exciting term for our Maths Department. Last month, 58 pupils from Years 9 to 11 took part in the Intermediate Maths Challenge Competition. 25 questions were posed to our keen mathematicians, such as: When I glanced at my car mileometer it showed 24942, a palindromic number. Two days later, I noticed it showed the next palindromic number. How many miles did my car travel in those two days?

This year our girls achieved the best ever set of results, with a total of 40 certificates awarded: 5 Gold, 11 Silver and 24 Bronze Certificates. Well done to everyone who took part and special congratulations to Jenny Zhou, Catherine Stylianou, Shalom Ho and Anna Ying who have all qualified for the next round.

World Maths Day took place on 1st March, with over 5 million students from 218 countries getting involved. 135 girls from Years 7 to 13 registered for the online competition, playing at home and at School against other students around the world in live games of mental arithmetic. Each game lasted 60 seconds and students could play up to 100 games, earning points for their personal tally. Every student who completed at least 60 games received a digital Platinum Award Certificate. Congratulations to the following girls, who all received a prize as the winner for their Year Group:

Lucy Walton – Year 7
Hannah Willis - Year 8
Nicole Cheng – Year 9
Lucianna Ghobrial – Year 10
Ronnie Yeung – Year 11
Daisy Zhang – Year 12
Wajihah Abd Lamit – Year 13
