SENIOR SCHOOL
Duke of Edinburgh Qualifying Expeditions

Twenty-nine girls successfully completed their Qualifying Venture at Gold and Silver level this July during the first week of the summer holidays.
Eight months of hard work and training in numerous areas of the British Isles, from the Malvern Hills, Forest of Dean, Shropshire and Brecon Beacons culminated in one final journey around the Peak District in Derbyshire.
Thankfully, the weather cooled in comparison to the previous week and the girls enjoyed almost perfect weather for their expeditions. Although there were some strong winds on day 2, it did not rain and so the girls did not use their waterproofs at all (in strong contrast to their Practice Expeditions where they lived in them!) The Silvers did a 3 day journey through the pretty scenic villages and beautiful limestone scenery of The White Peak. In contrast, the Golds completed a 4 day, 3 night expedition in the Dark Peak, a higher, more dramatic area.
Miss Cole, Head of Outdoor Pursuits, said ‘All the girls did very well, maintaining great team spirit and showing determination to complete their journeys in good time. Their Assessor, Mr Hulbert, was very complimentary about the groups and commended them for their good work. Congratulations to all the girls on their success.'
The following girls have achieved their Duke of Edinburgh Awards:
Gold - Hannah Evans, Becky Fisher, Elizabeth Utting and Rhiannon Allen.
Silver – Anna Baird, Ronya Barkow, Sarah Carrington, Joy Cao, Clara Chan, Queenie Cheng, Francesca Coventry, Lucy Cui, Sara Devereux, Cathy Xiao Du, Nur Atiqah Haji Abu Bakar, Zuhairah Ainee Haji Ahmad, Charlie Holroyd, Cara Homes, Tracy Shi Ting Huang, Shirley Huang, Mickie Koh, Wajihah Abd Lamit, Rosie Owen, Fiona Wan Cheing Poh, Beth Simmons, Bethany Stark, Cindy Xin Yi Zhang and Zayana Zulkifly.
