Autumn Concert

During the recent Autumn Concert the audience was treated to some of the highlights from the recent MSJ Choir Tour to Paris, including Poème by Fibich, a beautiful vocal duet by Tamsin Elsey and Catherine Okey, as well as a superb rendering of Syrinx on the flute by Catherine. With the Saint Saens Ave Maria and Flower Duet by Delibes, they could share in the music the Choir performed in Notre Dame a few weeks earlier.

The bright and brilliant sounds from the Jazz Band with The Loco-Motion and Surfin’ USA provided cheerful, sunny moments and American work songs and spirituals performed by the MSJ Choir added to the US flavour. Work it Out (High School Musical) and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough displayed the Choir’s talent for acting and providing lighter entertainment.

Three lovely solo performances were given by Tiffany Au (piano), Hilary Tai (piano) and Zara Edwards who sang Pie Jesu from the Requiem by John Rutter.

The String Quartet, MSJ Singers and MSJ Orchestra brought the evening to a lyrical close and it was with a more cheerful heart that the audience returned to the chill of a frosty evening.

MSJ parent, Mrs Chloe Phillips, said 'The concert on Sunday evening was a great success and I thoroughly enjoyed the wide variety of music. It was a nice surprise to see the choir adding dance moves to their uplifting songs in the first half. I was very impressed with the high standards achieved by the students and it was delightful to hear a good variety of solos and string quartets as well as the orchestra, band, string group and choirs. Thanks to the music staff for all their hard work in producing such a high quality concert'.
