Ski Trip 2011

to Year 12 set off to the USA in search of snow and fun. Their destination was Bretton Woods, a ski
resort in the shadow of Mount Washington in New Hampshire.

Lucy wins the 'Joanna Brown Trust' Talented Athlete Support Grant
Lucy Walton,
Year 8, has been awarded the coveted ‘Joanna Brown Trust’ Talented Athlete
Support Grant in recognition of her outstanding performance at Golf.

Following on from their visit to the London textile event, Yr 11 and Yr 12 art students had the opportunity to work with professional Textile Artist, Angie Hughes, in a hands-on workshop.

There's never a dull moment at Batsford House!
Our Batsford boarders have enjoyed a very busy half term.

This year, Malvern St James was excited to be performing ‘The Comedy of Errors’ in the Shakespeare Schools’ Festival, at the Courtyard Theatre in Hereford.

A team of girls from MSJ performed very well at the recent 2 day event held at Offchurchbury by Princethorpe College.
Malvern St James Launches Masterchef Competition
The first MSJ Masterchef competition was launched this term and is open to girls in years 7 to 9. The competition encourages girls to demonstrate a range of practical skills as well as originality and creativity in their choice of dishes.

Junior Maths Challenge
The Maths Department is celebrating our recent success in the Junior Maths Challenge, in which 30 girls from Years 7 and 8 took part.

GCSE and A Level Art Exhibition
The Art Department hosted a private view of all GCSE, AS and A2 artwork on Friday 20th May.

Einstein Society Summer Party
The Einstein Summer Party took place last Friday evening at beautiful Batsford House. A delicious party tea was enjoyed by a group of boarders and day girls from Years 7, 8 and 9.

Two girls were chosen from the Year 10 and Year 12 Latin groups to enter the Latin competition organised by the ARLT – The Association for Latin Teaching.

In what has become an annual tradition, pupils have started to review the books listed for the Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals 2011.

Fourteen croquet players from Years 10 to 13 set off for School House, Shrewsbury School as guests of Mr and Mrs Bell for what is becoming an annual social event; playing croquet and chatting over an informal lunch.

Model United Nations Conference at Haileybury School - a report by Mrs Huntley
Ten nervous and excited girls set off on Friday 25th March to a Model United Nations Conference at Haileybury School. 600 children from 38 schools here and abroad were representing 115 countries and debating such issues as: children in armed conflicts, the position of Kurds and biodiversity loss.

Year 7 History Trip
Wearing Monks' cowls, experiencing the ‘no talking at mealtimes' rule and chatting to a Monk were all part of experiencing Monastic life at Worcester Cathedral for the Year 7s.

Celebrating National Science and Engineering Week
Malvern St James celebrated NSEW by involving staff and students in a variety of activities, including competitions, a lecture and quiz.

Year 7 Castle Competition
Year 7 Historians were given the challenge to research castle design and construct a castle using any materials to hand.
Victory For Malvern St James at the National Schools Lacrosse Tournament!
Our 1st team began day one of the tournament with a convincing victory over Harrogate College, followed by two very hard fought matches, losing 2-3 and 2-4 in close games, which could have gone either way.

Great Results for Mathematicians
It has been a very exciting term for our Maths Department. Last month, 58 pupils from Years 9 to 11 took part in the Intermediate Maths Challenge Competition.

Last week Malvern St James hosted the Cheerleading and Sports Dance Festival. The event took place in our Sports Centre and was attended by 14 schools from Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Six girls from Years 9 and 12 represented Malvern St James at the HSBC/British Council Mandarin Chinese Speaking Competition, held at the London School of Economics in December.

Debating Success for MSJ Girls
Congratulations to Chloe Moore and Anna Baird, both in Year 11, who have successfully made it through to the final round of the Taylor Trophy. This is the principal debating competition in the Midlands for pre-sixth form students.

We were delighted to receive another visit from Officers and Crew of HMS Triumph on Wednesday December 1st. Following their first visit last year and our presence at the HMS Triumph's Rededication in April, it is nice to report how our links are becoming stronger.

Textile Trip and Workshop
Year 11, AS and A2 Textiles students travelled to Alexandra Palace in London recently to visit the prestigious Twisted Threads Textile Show.

Theatre Trip to ‘Lysistrata’
Pupils from Years 11 to 13 studying Classical Civilisation, Drama and Latin enjoyed a performance of ‘Lysistrata', a Greek comedy by Aristophanes.

MSJ mathematicians took part in a ‘friendly' competition against Malvern College in preparation for the Regional Finals of the Senior Maths Team Challenge at the end of this month.
