SENIOR SCHOOL
Examinations
Girls are invited to take Entrance Examinations at Malvern St James.
Middle School Entry
For entry into Years 7-10, the examinations take the form of Cognitive Ability Tests (CAT3) and an English comprehension examination. Entrance Examinations for September 2012 entry will take place on Wednesday 2nd November 2011.
CAT3 is the most widely used test of reasoning abilities in the UK. It measures the three principal areas of reasoning; verbal, quantitative and non-verbal. The CAT3 assesses an individual's ability to reason and may be used to predict future educational attainment. It also helps to build understanding of individual potential and learning styles.
Alternatively, girls may apply via the Common Entrance Examination.
Sixth Form Entry
Sixth Form Entrance Examinations consist of two papers. The first examination paper is taken in a subject which has been chosen for A Level (to be chosen from a selection of papers available), the second examination paper is the General Essay paper (or EAL paper for non-native English speakers).
All candidates have an interview with either Mrs Woodhouse, The Headmistress, or Jennifer Bailey, The Registrar.
We are also happy to send entrance papers to schools overseas, to the British Council or to appointed agents to administer on our behalf for those girls applying from outside of the UK.
A confidential report is requested from the pupil's present school, as part of the application process.
