PREPARATORY DEPARTMENT

As girls move towards their final years in the Preparatory Department, we continue to challenge and support them to develop further their passion for learning and confidence to push their own boundaries.

One key focus is to facilitate the smooth transition for pupils and parents from Year 6 into the Senior School. In Years 5 and 6 our girls benefit from being taught by teachers who are subject specialists and who will also be teaching them in Year 7.  In addition, Form Tutors continue to develop key skills of independent organisation and motivation.

Teachers use a variety of assessment methods, including a formal assessment at the end of the curriculum year. This is in line with national guidance in relation to topics; however, Malvern St James does not participate in the National Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) at the end of Key Stages 1 and 2.

Subjects are in line with the National Curriculum and Attainment Targets for Key Stages 1 and 2. However, modifications exist in some subject areas where appropriate.
