PREPARATORY DEPARTMENT
Years R to 4 Visit Christ Church
Girls in Years R to 4 enjoyed a visit to our local church as part of their Religious Studies curriculum. Once there, the form groups split up so that each could work at their own level.
Baptism was the topic for Years R to 1. After a tour of the church, the girls re-enacted a Christening, playing the parts of vicar, parents and godparents! Before returning to School, the girls gathered in the side chapel to say the Junior Prayer.
Years 2 to 3 were looking at the church building as a whole. Later in the term they will be comparing this Christian place of worship with other religious buildings, such as Hindu Temples. They toured the church inside and out and made some observational drawings of the building.
Year 4 pupils considered what people want from a place of worship. They looked closely at the features of the church and discussed ways in which it could be adapted to attract a larger congregation. These girls used their time at Christ Church to explore and discuss the appeal of the space and will follow up their visit with some throught-provoking accounts of their observations.
