After School Care in the Preparatory Department

Malvern St James believes in flexible after-school arrangements for our day pupils and we ensure that all the girls are cared for and entertained until parents are able to collect them.

Supervision is available to all children in the Preparatory Department and is an integral part of our school day. There is no charge for this childcare facility.

Your daughter's after-school activities may include:

  • clubs (a variety available to each age group*)
  • art and craft projects
  • ICT fun
  • tea
  • an opportunity to practise musical instruments
  • prep time
  • role-play and dressing up
  • sports coaching

All of these pastimes are supervised by our members of the pastoral care team, Preparatory Department Staff and peripatetic teachers.

Security and safety are important and an essential element of school life. On arrival, parents are asked to come into the Preparatory Department to collect their children; this ensures a high level of security and, in addition, provides an opportunity to talk with the teachers. All pupils are required to sign out when they leave. Many of the girls catch a school minibus home each day. Pupils travelling by bus sign out under adult supervision and are escorted to their pick-up point.

We aim to cater for each family's needs. For more information please contact the Registrar's Office on

* Clubs run by visiting practitioners may carry a nominal weekly charge, for example: pottery, jewellery, sports coaching.
