Wine Tasting Society Gets Off to a Fizzing Start!

The Sixth Form Wine Tasting Society got off to a fizzing start this term with a champagne tasting. Fifty girls turned up with tasting notes and pencils in hand. Before tasting the Bollinger, they were set a challenge to hold their noses and see whether they could taste a Basil leaf. No taste without the sense of smell was the consensus. This helped them to appreciate how to look at the colour and ‘bouquet' of the wines before sipping. The task was to see whether they could tell from the colour, bouquet and taste, whether a particular sparkling wine had used the same grapes as others. Pictures of marvellous champagne vineyards were projected onto the screen. The evening was rounded off with a competitive blind tasting. Was it a cava, prosecco, or a champagne? The consensus was champagne and they were right!

The wine tasting society meets twice a term and organises dinner parties with other schools
