Swim For Cash - a report by Mrs Winwood
On the evening of Saturday 13th November, 21 girls from Malvern St James met at The Splash to take part in a Swim For Cash event. This was a sponsored swim, organised by Malvern Rotary Club, to raise money for the new Malvern Community Hospital. There were 12 teams taking part, 3 of which came from MSJ.
The girls were organised into teams; one from the Junior department, one from Y7-11 and one from the Sixth Form. In their teams they had 15 minutes to swim, as a relay, as many lengths as possible.
The Juniors went first and set a high standard, completing 35 lengths in their allotted time. The Y7-11 went next, and with powerful performances from the likes of Elizabeth Thomas (Y8) and Sally Au-Yeung (Y10), they topped this, reaching 39 lengths. The pressure was then on the Sixth Form team. They went all out and broke the 40 length barrier, finishing with 43 lengths swum, the highest total of the night.
We have received a letter of thanks from Graham Chamberlain of the Rotary Club, who said, ‘Your swimmers competed with considerable enthusiasm and gave their supporters a great deal to cheer about! In taking part in this event, Malvern St James has been able to contribute valuable funds towards the cost of the Scanner for the new Malvern Hospital.'
Thank you to all the girls who took part, you did brilliantly. The next competition is to collect the sponsor money and see if we can raise the largest amount of cash out of all the teams. If you have not sponsored the girls already and would like to make a donation then see Mrs Winwood.
