Spanish Day in the Junior Department

The Junior Spanish Day was a great success; pupils dressed up in flamenco outfits, Spanish national costume or the colours of the Spanish flag arrived at school on a wave of enthusiasm, ready to get involved in all of the activities.
After watching a powerpoint presentationabout Spain- full of interesting facts and discussion points - the girls set to work to produce their own fact files; drawing and writing about what they had learnt.
Break time was churros and hot chocolate (just like little Spanish girls) and then out to play some Spanish playground games.
After break, Senorita Amodeo Howell and her Year 10 students came to teach the girls a Spanish song about colours. This was greatfun and everyone got quite good at remembering the different colour names.
Next the action moved outside for some PE activities using Spanish numbers and colours, as well as some simple Spanish phrases, such as "Arriba, arriba!"
In the afternoon, mixed age groups and rotated around 3 activities: baking Spanish cookies, creating collages inspired by Spanish themes and playing some Spanish computer games, before attacking a pinata kindly brought in by one of the girls.
