Lucy wins the 'Joanna Brown Trust' Talented Athlete Support Grant

Lucy Walton, Year 8, has been awarded the coveted ‘Joanna Brown Trust’ Talented Athlete Support Grant in recognition of her outstanding performance at Golf.
In partnership with Malvern Hills District Council, the Grant of £500 provides young talented athletes under the age of 18, with funding to pay for training, travel, equipment and competition costs.
Set up in loving memory of Joanna Brown, The Joanna Brown Trust aims to encourage involvement in sport, and to provide people with an opportunity to experience sport and excel in it. 100% of the money the Joanna Brown Trust receives from donations and sponsorship will go towards their cause.
Richard Brown, Founder of the Trust said “We are absolutely delighted to be supporting Lucy through our talented athlete support grant scheme. It’s very evident that Lucy has tremendous skill and ability for her age but what impressed us most was her drive and commitment to be the best she can. Jo was a very keen sports woman herself and was well known for her drive and commitment. We set up the grant scheme so we could support talented young athletes in the local area in Jo’s name and hopefully give them the support they need to fulfil their potential”.
Lucy has also been selected for the English Women’s Golf Association Year 2 Birdie Group. This is the second stage of four towards the National Under 18 Team which is a huge achievement for Lucy, only aged 12. Mrs Patricia Woodhouse, Headmistress of Malvern St James Girls’ School said, “MSJ is hugely proud of Lucy’s achievements and she fully deserves such a coveted award to help further develop her talents. As a keen sports woman who plays in many School teams including hockey and netball, we whole-heartedly support Lucy throughout her training”.
