Einstein Society 3D Challenge

Einstein Society 3D Challenge

The first Spring Term meeting of the Einstein Society was an intriguing 3D challenge: to build a bridge made of plastic straws using minimal sellotape and string. Our small but select group of experienced Einsteiners soon settled down to the task of building a bridge strong enough to take a weight of 150 grams while a boat passed underneath. The girls experimented with a variety of hands-on methods of construction considering compression and tension. This was a really practical physics session. Morwenna Pearson, Year 9, built an amazing bridge which was not only beautiful to look at, but also very strong and stable.
