Churchill's Society Dinner Party
The second meeting of the Churchill's Society took place last month. This is an annual joint dinner party at Churchill's Hall, with sixth formers from MSJ and boys from Shrewsbury School.
Julia Holdsworth, the mother of an MSJ old girl, whose family run Churchill Graham Port Shippers, gave a tutored tasting of wines and ports. The aim of the evening was not only to educate sixth formers about wine, but also to encourage social events involving good conversation over the dinner table. The occasion was a great success – the conversation flowed and new friendships were formed. The more discerning girls might now be able to tell the difference between a rather special vintage port and a Late Bottled Vintage, but all will now know that it is imperative to keep passing the port to the left at dinner parties!
Rosie Baker and Naomi Hoggett, Year 12, said ‘The evening proved to be both very enjoyable and an interesting insight into the complexities of port bottling and tasting. Our thanks go both to Mrs Huntley and Mrs Holdsworth for organising the event, taking us to and from Shrewsbury and, of course, for supplying the port. We very much look forward to the next meeting!'.
