Family and Friends meet at the Summer Reunion
75 Old Girls and former members of staff, some with their families met at Malvern St James on Saturday 21May for the Summer Reunion and Annual General Meeting. Hannah is pictured with her parents,Michael and Judy in the centre and Penny Smith next to her, with Di Cooley on the right of the photo.
The Committee meeting was held beforehand, starting at 9 30am. Hannah Plant, Penny Smith, Tricia Wilkinson, Di Cooley, Julia Hodgkins and Cate Bennett, with two Trustees, Charlotte Morrison and Anne Borrowdale, were present. The Treasurer, Margaret Wood, was not able to be at the meeting, but visited MSJ the day before to see Elisabeth, bringing the accounts and she also had a meeting with the Financial Director. As always, though the Committee members are kept well up to date by the Sceretary, there was a lot to discuss and plan for the future.
It was at committee meetings that the suggestions were first made to have a Family Day, when Old Girls could bring their families to visit, and also to have a rather less formal lunch when children could play and babies coo and gurgle! So, it was lovely to see the plan come to fruition with a barbecue in the Quad.
The AGM was held beforehand, when Hannah welcomed the Headmistress, Trish Woodhouse, to her first OGA Summer Reunion. The full minutes of the AGM are on the website. After the meeting, Old Girls joined their families for lunch – and we were so lucky with the weather. The Catering Department produced a delicious barbecue and the games were a great hit with the children. ‘Young at heart' members did not feel out of place. It was great that Jill Gladstone had encouraged her friends from the OGs born 1940-ish to attend and they stayed on in Malvern for the night.
After lunch, Trish Woodhouse gave a presentation when she spoke about her pride in becoming Headmistress of MSJ. Tours followed this and then we re-assembled in the Lawnside Room for a fabulous concert put on by the girls.
