VOTE FOR LATIN - SAYS MAYORAL CANDIDATE BORIS!

Italy and France set the pace for this year's CICERO Classics competition, when boys and girls worked against each other and the clock in the Easter holidays to translate a Latin passage and answer questions on mythology.
The competition was first staged last year and has gathered so much momentum that this time Italy, Spain, France, Andorra and the UK are all taking part, on Friday 18th April, with Malvern St James as the UK base and host of its multi lingual website.
The video linked contest has received much celebrity support from eminent Classicists across Europe, none more celebrated than our own Boris Johnson, who has placed an enthusiastic message on the competition website. He is joined by the Right Hon Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
On Friday 18th April, a 'virtual classroom' will be set up for students across Europe to translate a passage from Latin and research the myth of Hercules together.
The name CICERO is an acronym in Latin, which, translated means :
‘A Competition to promote harmony in all areas of Europe’ .
Headmistress of Malvern St James, Rosalind Hayes said:
"This is a unique competition and we are delighted to promote Classics with this exciting initiative. The level of support that the competition has attracted both from schools and from Classics Scholars is testament to its significance".
