Girls Go Gold
On Thursday 24 September a group of MSJ sport scholars and PE A level students travelled to the GSA Girls Go Gold Conference at Headington School, Oxford. Here they joined around 600 students to experience a very organised day with a variety of activities and speeches by inspiring athletes.
The day started with a motivational talk by Amy Williams, who was a Gold medallist in the 2010 Winter Olympics at Skeleton. Action then moved to the Ergo Room where rower Katie Greves (a Silver medal winner at the 2014 European Championships in Belgrade) taught rowing techniques.
In the afternoon girls enjoyed nutrition and psychology talks. Everyone found these incredibly relevant to their own sport, despite the MSJ contingent including a massive variety of disciplines, from an international Golfer to an international High Jumper. The day concluded with Sally Gunnell and Katarina Johnson Thompson answering a variety of questions and explaining their training methods and how they achieved and dealt with the successes and disappointments in their careers.
