Year 9 Trip to Gilwern by Miss Cole, Head of Outdoor Pursuits
All of Year 9 went on an Adventure Activity Trip to Gilwern, near Abergavenny, from 15 to 17 June. The programme consisted of lots of adventurous and challenging activities. They canoed, caved, climbed and surprised themselves by doing all sorts of things that they did not think they could! Quite a number of girls were very nervous about doing some of these activities, but by the end of the day were very pleased that they had persevered.
They also had some seriously good fun and wanted to do more! The underlying serious point of the trip was for the girls to live and work together in challenging situations. And by experiencing these activities together, they were able to develop their friendships and good teamwork. Some of their comments afterwards included ‘’I thought I wouldn’t be able to climb to the top because of my fear, but I did!’’ and ’’I was surprised by what I did. I could do things if I tried!’’
The Year 9s were a good bunch to take away. They tried everything, approached everything in good spirits and were great ambassadors for the school. They left Gilwern with a real sense of satisfaction and achievement, having made new friends and learned more about themselves.
