2-1 win for Prep's under 11s footballers
On Monday (27 November), our under 11 footballers played their first full fixture outside of a tournament welcoming a team of under12s from Bredon Hill Academy.
It was clear from the outset that our girls were up against a very technically skilled team and for the first ten minutes our girls hardly had a touch of the ball. The girls from BHA were by far the most able team our girls had ever faced and it was evidently going to be a very stern test.
MSJ were finding it hard to keep possession and faced long periods of defending, until two pieces of inspirational play changed the course of the match. Susannah Watkins received the ball from our defence and played a wonderful through ball into the path of MSJ forward, Lilia Mico. Lilia controlled the ball and beat the chasing defender before firing the ball past the Bredon goalkeeper to give MSJ the lead. Five minutes later she repeated the feat, this time latching onto a fantastic pass from Charlotte Brookes. These two marvellous bits of play meant MSJ took a 2-0 lead into the half time break.
The second half followed a very similar pattern with BHA dominating possession and playing some very nice football. However, as in the first half our defence remained resolute throughout, thwarting all their attempts to breach our defences. When the defenders failed to block or intercept BHA’s attacks, MSJ goalkeeper and player of the match, Chloe Aris, stood defiant, making a series of excellent saves.
With five minutes of the game remaining the MSJ goal was eventually breached. A shot from range was well saved by Chloe only for a Bredon attacker to poke home the rebound.
Our girls held on for the remaining minutes to record a 2-1 victory.
Although, all the girls were fantastic, a special mention must go to our defenders - captain, Amber Forsyth, Mia Rooke-Hodges and Millie Kane - and goalkeeper, Chloe Aris, all of whom were absolutely magnificent.
